Sandy received tenure for her position of principal at the Charles Harker Elementary School. Sandy introduced a variety of programs to her students including a Comet Pride program to reward positive student behavior, a Career Day and the installation of school news outlets. She also created a partnership with FURever As Friends to bring students a reading program with animals.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP
Passante was appointed to the position of assistant principal for the Washington Township High School 9-10 building. The Washington Township native will lend assistance to Principal Ann More and 9-10 wing Executive Assistant Principal Steve Selby in matters of discipline, student attendance and various other administrative responsibilities.

MATT LENGUADORO
NEWFIELD
Our Lady of Mercy Academy (OLMA) has found itself a new athletic director in Lenguadoro. With more than 30 years of experience as a coach, teacher and administrator, OLMA says Lenguadoro was the perfect choice for the position. Lenguadoro will be tasked with managing and advancing OLMA’s rapidly-growing athletic program. The high school currently has 12 competitive sports teams.

The Lenape High School senior has utilized the art of Zentangle to create a meticulous mural in the main hallway of the school. Drawn, designed and doodled by Burgos, she has spent many hours transforming the hallway at Lenape with her hand-drawn, intertwined black and white design using an acrylic paint marker. Burgos even hid a few Lenape symbols and words throughout the mural to show her school spirit.

ZAC BROSKY
MULLICA HILL
A member of the Philadelphia Boys Choir, Brosky shines when it comes to singing at Friends School Mullica Hill. A PSA video students created where Brosky was the lead role recently won a Judge’s Choice award at the Bridge Film Festival (an international Quaker film festival). Brosky even starred as one of the leading roles in the middle school’s musical, The Kingdom of Grimm.

THOMAS JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY STUDENTS
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP
While reading during the summer might be something children find boring, it’s something the students at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School are taking full advantage of. Children in K-fourth grade were given books to bring home for the summer before school ended. Now, every Wednesday, students have been given the chance to return and exchange their completed books for new adventures. They are even invited to take a quick, online Accelerated Reader quiz to determine their reading skills.

HADDONFIELD
A Bells Elementary School music teacher in Washington Township, Davis stands out to her students as the epitome of kindness. The Haddonfield resident’s nonprofit “Forget Me Knot Flowers,” is repurposing flowers to brighten up the days of others. Working with couples, event planners, florists and grocers, Davis and her team recycle flowers to nursing homes, care facilities, shelters and local hospitals to ensure individuals they are not forgotten.

Manzelmann, or “Teacher Peter” as his students call him, is Friends School Mullica Hill’s campus naturalist. Demonstrating all that nature has to offer, students got the chance to work with the NJ Bluebird Society to install bluebird boxes around the campus. Manzelmann even takes his students to an overnight canoeing trip in the Pinelands for the students to have another chance to become more social with nature.

HADDONFIELD
Derivaux, a member of the Wedgewood swim team, set a meet record at the Tri-County Swimming Championships when she won the girls 12-and-under 100 individual medley with a time of 1:07.84. Her effort broke the previous record of 1:08.10, which had stood since 1998. Derivaux also prevailed in the girls 11-12 50 freestyle and was part of the team that won the girls 11-12 200 medley relay.

U-12 BASEBALL
MEDFORD
The Renegades claimed their third straight state title thanks to an exciting 6-5 win over the Marlton Reds in the championship game of the Cal Ripken 12-year-old 50/70 State Tournament in Cherry Hill. Max Kaufer belted a clutch three-run home run and center fielder Dean Bialous made a sensational diving catch in the sixth inning to help thwart a Marlton rally.
