Voters Will Wait and See About Governor
A new poll suggests that New Jersey residents will be highly disappointed if the new governor Chris Christie -- who has been in office all of two weeks -- doesn’t come through on lowering property taxes.
While the Republican governor may now be enjoying a political honeymoon with Democrats who control the state legislature, it’s clear from a new Monmouth University-Gannett New Jersey Poll that voters are far less patient.
More than half of 800 people surveyed statewide have yet to give Christie an up or down rating, according to poll director Patrick Murray, because they want to see what he’ll do on the property tax front:
"We found that 71 percent said that they would be very upset with Governor Christie if he did not reduce property taxes during his term -- something he’s got to keep in mind if he wants to be re-elected to a second one." The survey finds that only four in 10 people find it likely that reforms will be adopted that will bring those taxes down.
And it’s clear that voters want state spending cut, although NOT for education.
