Star Teachers …From the pages of Suburban Family Magazine…

Dave Magpiong
Voorhees
Voorhees Middle School social studies teacher Magpiong (pictured) has earned a national reputation as an avid bird watcher; he even created a group called the Fledging Birders Institute for young birders. Magpiong was recently interviewed in the latest issue of National Geographic magazine about his hobby, during which he shared his goals of spreading bird watching to local ethnicities. He also was referenced on the issue discussing the lack of minorities involved in the hobby.

Jennifer Pulliam
Medford
Shawnee physics teacher Pulliam put her students in the heat of competition in her most recent lesson. The students learned about the similarities and differences between speed and velocity with a special, outdoor lesson on the school’s football field. It was a hands-on lesson for students, who received a full visual—as well as a little fresh air.

Rosie Rucker
Washington Township
Whitman Elementary School teacher Rucker helped expose her first grade students to the world of meteorology by inviting CBS3 meteorologist Justin Drabick to visit. The class got to ask Drabick questions, and was featured on the noon weather report. With it being her last year, Rucker hopes to make it an exciting year by using hands-on lessons to teach her students about meteorology, this year's featured learning project.

Elisabeth Lamon
Mount Laurel
Lenape Special Needs teacher Lamon organized the school’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive with the help of her class. Lamon and her students collected boxed and canned goods from students and staff, then bagged individual sets of meals to distribute to families across South Jersey.
